No. Our soft, non-rigid hut is not free standing and must be hung over a perch.
It is designed to provide ample ventilation to keep your pet comfortable and healthy and has back wall of thick sherpa for snuggling.
Some birds will be thrilled with their hut from the moment they see it, other, more timid or younger birds, need to be introduced to the hut gradually so that they do not perceive it as a threat. You should unwrap your hut and place it in an upright position near the cage, on a table or chair, where your bird can view it and become used to its presence. If your bird does not seem to fear the hut, go ahead and place it in the cage over a perch. If your bird is very young and having trouble perching, chances are that he/she will think that the hut is a predator if you place it high in the cage. For these birds, place the hut on the floor of cage, securing it to the cage using the tab in the center of the back of the hut. In all cases, within a few days, you can place the hut over your bird's favorite perch.
No! It can take birds MONTHS to start using their hut. Parrots are prey animals and need a place of privacy/security in their cages. When we first developed the Avian Haven hut we had two rescue Amazons, Max and Melinda, who were afraid of their own shadows, not to mention their huts. After four months of biting and chewing on their "toy huts", both parrots suddenly discovered the new "rooms" in their cages. They have been using them on a daily basis ever since.
Bumblefoot is a painful bacterial infection in poultry feet, often caused by cuts or injuries. Birdy Booties provide bumblefoot treatment by protecting the wound from dirt and moisture while the anti-bacterial silver-infused fabric promotes healing. They work as protective chicken boots that allow your bird to walk naturally during recovery.
Bumblefoot treatment requires cleaning the wound, applying veterinary-recommended medication, and protecting the foot during healing. Birdy Booties are the most effective way to keep the wound clean and protected while allowing your chicken to move naturally. The breathable design prevents infection while promoting faster recovery.
Yes! The open-toe design and soft construction allow chickens, ducks, and geese to walk, roost, forage, and move naturally. Birdy Booties provide protection without restricting movement, making them ideal for active birds during bumblefoot recovery.
Yes! The open-toe design and soft construction allow chickens, ducks, and geese to walk, roost, forage, and move naturally. Birdy Booties provide protection without restricting movement, making them ideal for active birds during bumblefoot recovery.
Bumblefoot healing time varies depending on severity, but most chickens show significant improvement within 2-4 weeks when using Birdy Booties for wound protection. The boots keep the wound clean and dry, promoting faster healing than traditional bandaging methods.
Birdy Booties come in multiple sizes Measure your bird's foot width and length, then consult our size chart. We offer sizes for chickens, ducks, geese, and even turkeys. Most standard chickens use Medium or Large size.
Absolutely! Birdy Booties work perfectly for waterfowl including ducks and geese. We offer waterfowl-specific sizes designed for their larger feet. The waterproof construction makes them ideal for birds that spend time in water. Be sure to use the included leg bands to secure the bootie on your bird's leg before permitting them to swim.
Gently slip the Birdy Bootie over your CLOSED chicken's foot, ensuring the toes thread into their respective toe sleeves. The soft neoprene material conforms to the foot shape. Secure the closure and check that your bird can walk comfortably. Use the enclosed optional leg bands if the bootie is too loose around your chicken's leg. Detailed instructions are included with every order.
Yes! The neoprene and NeoSponge construction is water-resistant, making Birdy Booties suitable for chickens, ducks, and geese that encounter wet conditions. However, for best healing results, keep the wound as dry as possible during treatment.
Yes! Birdy Booties can be used preventatively to protect chicken feet from rough terrain, hot pavement, sharp objects, and wire flooring that can cause bumblefoot. Many backyard chicken owners use them to prevent foot injuries before they occur.
For severe bumblefoot infections, always consult an avian veterinarian for proper diagnosis and treatment. Birdy Booties are recommended by vets as part of comprehensive bumblefoot treatment, but serious infections may require antibiotics or surgical intervention along with protective boots.
Check and clean the Birdy Bootie daily during bumblefoot treatment. Remove the boot to inspect the wound, clean it as directed by your vet, and replace with a clean boot. Having multiple pairs allows you to rotate them during washing.
Most chickens adjust to Birdy Booties within a few hours to a day. The lightweight, comfortable design minimizes resistance. Start with short wearing periods and gradually increase time. The relief from bumblefoot pain usually helps chickens accept the boots quickly.
Here is a video, followed by written instructions, showing you how to reassemble the chicken sandal:
And here are the written instructions:
The loop of the tape should be placed against the OUTSIDE of the sandal (loop against the patterned/colored side.
There are nine slits in the sandal: three for the front toes, one for the rear toe, one for a spur and two each for the leg bands.
Assemble the sandal by holding the loop side of the tape against the colored/patterned side of the neoprene and threading the tape through the slits in the bands; make sure that the neoprene is lying flat on either end of the tape. The soft loop side should always face your chicken.
Roosters/Spurred Hens:
With the black side of the neoprene and the loop of the tape facing up, thread the spur through the lower-most slit.
All Roosters and Hens:
Thread the front three toes through the top three toe slits and the rear toe through the rear toe slit.
Please note: It is inevitable that the hook on the tape will adhere to the nylon-covered neoprene. This will not affect the integrity of the sandal.

The top of the Birdy Bootie is made of neoprene. Both the top and underside are lined with silky smooth Nylon.
The sole of the Birdy Bootie is made with NeoSponge,™ a porous, synthetic rubber material designed to flex, have great durability, and be resistant to breakdown by water. NeoSponge™ is used in human orthotics and medical footwear.
Our Birdy Bootie contains X-Static®, a pure silver fiber woven directly into the fabric:
- Eliminates 99.9% of bacteria on the material in less than one hour of exposure.
- Kills bacteria and fungi faster as the temperature in the bootie rises due to activity.
- Made with pure silver - there are no chemicals or fear of toxicity to your bird.
- The silver in X-Static® is a physical part of the fiber and will not diminish over time.
Here are videos followed by written instructions showing you how to put the bootie on your chicken goose or duck.
Be sure to SQUEEZE YOUR BIRD'S TOES TOGETHER so that you can slip the shoe over your bird’s foot. You must USE THE OPTIONAL LEG BANDS if your bird is able to remove the bootie.

Here is a how to video for putting the Birdy Bootie on a duck or goose:
Here are the written instructions:
1. Open the two Velcro fasteners.
2. Open the Birdy Bootie widely and slip the shoe over your bird’s foot. For chickens, once the foot is halfway into the bootie, unsqueeze the toes gently guide your bird's front toes into the appropriate toe sleeve.
3. Be sure that you are placing a right foot into a right shoe and a left foot into a left shoe. Never use a left shoe on a right foot, or vice versa, as this will result in a poor fit and cause discomfort for your bird.
4. Pull the Birdy Bootie up and guide your bird’s back toe into the rear toe slit.
5. After all of your bird's toes are correctly positioned, fasten the Velcro tabs snuggly.
6. If all of your bird's toe nails do not extend beyond the edge of the toe sleeves, you should trim the nail(s) to avoid damage to the shoe and to provide a more comfortable fit.
7. The shoe can be worn as long as necessary to heal the wound or bumblefoot, but should be removed as needed for cleaning, to check the progress of healing, and to re-apply any medication.
8. If the Birdy Bootie gets wet on the inside, remove immediately and let dry thoroughly before placing it back onto your chicken’s foot.
9. Hand wash your Birdy Bootie with a mild detergent in warm water, turn inside out and air dry. To prolong the life of the shoe, avoid machine washing.
Here is a video showing you how to do that:
Yes!
We encourage you to let your chicken wear the sandal using the optional rear leg band. If the rear leg band appears to be too bulky and you are confident that your chicken will not be able to remove the sandal with only the front leg band fastened, you can easily remove the rear leg band by cutting it off with a pair of scissors.

Here are instructional videos followed by written instructions - be sure to fasten the straps CROSS-WISE across your bird's back:
How to put the tie-on Birdy Bra on your chicken
How to put the hook-and-loop (velcro) Birdy bra on your chicken
1. Place the Birdy Bra on your bird so that the bra best supports the crop:
For birds with large, pendulous crops, this would be lower down on the chest to provide support from below; for crop stasis, it may be a bit higher to provide even pressure across the entire crop. The Birdy Bra can be oriented with the straps either horizontally or vertically, whichever offers the best support for your bird's crop.
2. Pull the lower straps below your bird’s wings and up onto the back, and the upper straps over the top bird’s shoulders along either side of your bird’s neck.
3. Tie the straps cross-wise: top left strap to lower right strap, and top right strap to lower left strap.
4. For hook and loop closures, thread each strap cross-wise through D-ring at shoulder, fold back, and press hook and loop together.
5. Adjust as necessary.
6. Care: wash your Birdy Bra in cold water and delicate dry cycle.
It depends on what you need the crop bra for.
The tie-on is highly adjustable and provides a custom fit for excellent crop support; the tie-on crop bra can even be turned 90-degrees to provide additional lift for large pendulous crops.
The hook-and-loop style is better for chest protection: it is easier to put on but has limited adjustability and might slip or slide if too large. The hook-and-loop crop bra cannot be turned 90 degrees.
Choose the size from the size name of the crop bra:
XL Chicken/Goose/Duck (fits larger breed chickens and most adult ducks and geese)
Standard (fits most standard breed chickens and most ducks and geese)
Small Chicken/ Large Bantam Chicken (fits most larger bantam breeds and smaller standard breed chickens)
Small Bantam Chicken/Duckling/Goslings (fits smaller breed bantams, ducklings and goslings)
Large Parrot (fits large parrot species - Hook and Loop only)
Small Parrots (fits small parrot species - Hook and Loop only)
The Birdy Bra is a supportive garment that provides gentle compression for chickens with pendulous crop, sour crop, or crop disorders. It holds the crop in a natural position, preventing dragging and discomfort while your chicken recovers from crop problems.Pendulous crop requires veterinary care combined with supportive treatment. The Birdy Bra crop support bra helps by providing gentle compression and preventing the crop from hanging too low. Use in conjunction with vet-recommended treatment including crop massage and dietary management. The Birdy Bra supports recovery but is not a cure. It should be used alongside veterinary treatment for sour crop, pendulous crop, or crop stasis. The compression helps maintain proper crop position during healing.
Pendulous crop occurs when the crop muscle weakens and stretches, often from repeated crop impaction, sour crop episodes, or aging. The crop hangs low instead of emptying properly. The Birdy Bra provides support during recovery and management.
Gently position the Birdy Bra to support the crop area and fasten crosswise - top right strap over right wing joint and lower left strap up and over left wing joint and either tie (tie-on) or fasten (velcro) across the back; repeat with upper left and lower right straps. Adjust for snug but comfortable fit - tight enough to provide support but not so tight it restricts breathing. Follow included instructions for proper fitting.
Yes, but monitor your chicken's diet during crop disorder treatment as directed by your veterinarian. The Birdy Bra doesn't prevent eating but provides support while limiting crop overexpansion during recovery.Duration depends on your chicken's condition and veterinary recommendations. Some chickens wear the Birdy Bra temporarily during crop disorder recovery (2-4 weeks), while others with chronic pendulous crop may need long-term, even life-long, support.
The Birdy Bra provides supportive care during sour crop treatment by maintaining proper crop position. Use it alongside veterinary treatment including antifungal medication, crop massage, and dietary changes prescribed by your vet.Yes! The Birdy Bra is made with breathable bird-safe materials and designed for all-day wear. It provides gentle compression without restricting breathing, movement, or normal chicken behaviors.Always consult a veterinarian first for crop problems. The Birdy Bra is a supportive aid to use alongside professional veterinary treatment, not a replacement for proper diagnosis and medical care. The Diapurr is an innovative Diaper that has a pouch behind your cat to keep feces and urine contained away from both your cat and your furniture. Here is a video introducing you to the Diapurr cat diaper.
Here is a video showing youhow to put the Diapurr on your cat, followed by written instructions:
Open all of the hook and loop fasteners and insert vinyl pouch into the slit in the diaper so that there are no gaps between the hook on the vinyl pouch and the loop on the diaper.
- When correctly attached, the vinyl pouch will be sticking out of the top of the slit in the diaper creating a space for your cat's tail.
- If using our washable, super-absorbent, anti-microbial inserts, roll the insert into a cone shape and insert into the diaper so that the edge of the insert does not reach the rim of the pouch or urine might be wicked up onto the underside of your cat's tail.
- If using a disposable sanitary pad (be certain to use a thin or ultra thin style) make a cone or fold the pad in half and place into pouch so that it does not reach the rim of the pouch or urine might be wicked up onto the underside of your cat's tail.
- Place matching fabric cover over vinyl pouch and secure loop on cover to hook on diaper and vinyl pouch. If you prefer to see when the pouch is full so that you can change your cat's diaper in a timely manner, you can leave the cover off.
- Holding your cat so that your cat's head is facing away from you, place collar over your cat's head.
- Loosely fasten the strap across your cat's shoulders.
- Hold the pouch high over over your cat's tail, take your cat's tail and thread it through the space between the pouch and the top of the Dia-Purr.
- Pull straps below the pouch between your cat's back legs.
- Fasten the loop of the left-hand strap onto the hook of the left-hand diaper girth strap.
- Fasten the loop of the right-hand strap onto the hook of the right-hand diaper girth strap.
- Adjust the straps so that the elastic rim of the diaper fits snug against your cat's body.
- Adjust the shoulder strap so that the collar is secured comfortably below your cat's neck.
- To remove the Diapurr, open the hook and loop shoulder fasteners and pull the collar gently over your cat's head and then open the hook and loop girth strap fasteners. While carefully holding the pouch upright (to avoid spilling any of the the contents) lift the pouch vertically over your cat's tail, and pull the entire diaper upwards and backwards away from your cat until it is fully pulled away from your cat's body.
Empty contents of pouch and replace liners or wash diaper.
To re-insert liner and create the proper space for your cat's tail, the two white lines on the band ('hook') must line up with the edges of the gap in the band ('loop') on the diaper.
Here is a video showing you how to do that:
We know that the Diapurr looks complicated! Please watch the instructional videos; once you get the hang of putting it on and taking it off, both you and your cat will appreciate how well it works. Here's a video of a Diapurr being put on a cat - it took the owner only 20 seconds!
Roll the insert into a cone shape and insert into the diaper so that the edge of the insert does not reach the rim of the pouch or urine might be wicked up onto the underside of your cat's tail.
Yes, but you need to empty the contents of the pouch on a regular basis and wash it periodically to control odors. Some customers have told us that they use prefer to use two Diapurrs a day, one each for a 12-hour period so that one Diapurr can be washed and dried without the cat having to go without a diaper.
Yes, but ONLY if the vinyl pouch is detached and not being washed at the same time as the rest of the Diapurr components. High temperatures will melt the vinyl.
Most likely because either the diaper is not being changed often enough or the liner was placed too high in the pouch and enabled wicked liquids to reach your cat's tail.
The Diapurr is manufactured in the USA. Both the liquid proof diaper and absorbent liner fabric are 100% eco-friendly and manufactured with no harmful chemicals in American textile mills.
Our reusable, superabsorbent inserts absorbs 10 times its weight in under 2 seconds and are made with Silvadur®, which inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi and controls bad odors.
The Diapurr is one-size-fits-most. Made of liquid-resistant fabric, the Dia-Purr secures around both your cat's collar and girth and adjusts to fit most cats.
The permanent liner Hen Holster has the absorbent liner permanently sewn into the harness, making it a simpler all-in-one design with no parts to swap out. The removable liner version lets you change liners throughout the day without taking the harness off your chicken. Choose permanent for simplicity and durability, or removable for more frequent changing.
Rinse the permanent liner Hen Holster pouch once or twice daily depending on your chicken's output. The integrated design dries faster than the removable version, so you can have two harnesses and rotate them - one on the chicken, one in the wash.
Yes! The permanent liner chicken diaper provides superior holding ability and is designed for all-day wear. The integrated construction actually enhances durability and leak protection compared to removable systems. Pair both with our super-absorbent cotton inserts for superb absorbancy.
The standard permanent liner Hen Holster works for smaller ducks, but we recommend the Hen Holster for Waterfowl for ducks and geese. It's specifically designed for their unique body shape and higher waste output. We recommend the removable liner version, which is more rigid, for waterfowl, however.
Either style will work.
The permanent liner is excellent for chickens living indoors full-time because it's more durable with fewer parts to wear out. Buy 2-3 permanent liner harnesses and rotate them through washing for continuous indoor chicken keeping. The vinyl liner style has liners that can wear out through time, but you can purchase additonal ones and rotate their use.
No! Like all Hen Holsters, the permanent liner design allows natural chicken movement, wing flapping, and comfortable wear. Your chicken can move, perch, and behave naturally while wearing it.
Yes! The Hen Holster chicken diaper is the #1 rated solution for keeping indoor chickens mess-free. The removable washable liner system captures waste while allowing your chicken to move naturally, making it perfect for house chickens and pet poultry.
Change the removable liner every 8 hours depending on your chicken's output. The Hen Holster includes 2 washable liners so you can swap them out throughout the day without removing the harness from your chicken.
Yes, chickens can comfortably wear the Hen Holster all day. The breathable design prevents overheating and doesn't restrict natural movement. However, give your chicken supervised diaper-free time daily for dust bathing and natural behaviors.
The Hen Holster is designed with your bird's safety in mind. Made from bird-safe materials, it doesn't restrict wings or breathing. The secure harness prevents the diaper from slipping while allowing natural chicken behavior.
While chickens can't be fully house-trained like cats or dogs, the Hen Holster chicken diaper allows you to keep pet chickens indoors mess-free. It's perfect for indoor chicken keeping, therapy chickens, and bringing backyard chickens inside temporarily.
Both the harness and removable vinyl liners are machine washable. Simply remove soiled liners, rinse if needed, and machine wash. The durable construction withstands repeated washing while maintaining its shape and security. But DO NOT use hot water on the liners to prolong their useful life. We sell replacement liners if you prefer to wash them in hot water and replace them more often.
The standard Hen Holster works for some smaller ducks, but we recommend the Hen Holster for Waterfowl for ducks and geese. It's specifically designed for their unique body shape and larger size.
Ducks and geese have different body shapes, larger sizes, and higher waste output than chickens. The Hen Holster for Waterfowl is specifically engineered for waterfowl anatomy with extra coverage, reinforced construction, and larger capacity for their needs. The Runner Duck diaper is for very slim and norrow upright duck breeds while the Pekin Duck style has a chest tab for wider ducks.
Small ducks may fit in a standard Hen Holster, but the waterfowl-specific version provides better fit, comfort, and coverage. For geese and larger ducks, the Hen Holster for Waterfowl is essential for proper fit and function.
Most waterfowl adjust to the Hen Holster within a few days. Start with short sessions and gradually increase wearing time. The comfortable design accommodates their unique stance and movement patterns better than chicken diapers.
The Hen Holster for Waterfowl is not designed for swimming. Remove it before allowing your duck or goose to swim or bathe. The harness is for indoor use and supervised outdoor time on land only.
While the pouch would hold enough waste for a chicken for 8 hours, to accommodate the higher waste output of ducks and geese we recommend that you change the liner every 2-3 hours for optimal cleanliness and bird comfort.
The Hen Holster for Waterfowl features adjustable straps to accommodate both ducks and geese, but larger geese may need the XK Pekin size.
Yes, with proper monitoring. Give your duck supervised diaper-free time daily for natural bathing behaviors and swimming. The Hen Holster for Waterfowl allows comfortable all-day indoor wear with regular liner changes.
Yes! The Hen Saver Chicken Harness makes chicken leash training possible and safe. Many backyard chicken owners successfully train their pet chickens to walk on leashes for bonding, exercise, and supervised outdoor exploration.
Start by letting your chicken wear the Hen Saver Chicken Harness indoors for short periods. Gradually increase time and add a lightweight leash such as the Holster pet leash. Use treats to encourage forward movement. Most chickens adapt within 1-2 weeks of patient training.
Yes! The Hen Saver Chicken Harness is specifically designed for chicken anatomy with a comfortable vest-style fit that doesn't restrict breathing or wings. It's veterinarian-approved for safe chicken walking and leash training.
Yes! The Hen Saver Chicken Harness works well for ducks and chickens. The adjustable straps accommodate different poultry body types, making it suitable for pet chickens, ducks, and even some geese.
Walking chickens strengthens your bond, provides mental stimulation, allows safe supervised outdoor time, and is great for therapy chickens, 4-H projects, educational programs, and chicken shows. It's also fun and unique!
Most chickens adjust to the Hen Saver Chicken Harness within days. Start with short sessions and use positive reinforcement. Pet chickens and hand-raised birds typically adapt fastest to harness training.
Absolutely! The Hen Saver Chicken Harness is perfect for chicken shows, educational demonstrations, therapy chicken visits, and 4-H projects. It keeps your bird safe and under control in public settings.
A chicken saddle (Hen Saver) protects from rooster damage. A chicken harness enables you to control and walk your chicken.
A chicken saddle (also called a hen saddle or chicken apron) protects your hen's back from rooster over-mating injuries. When roosters mate, they grip the hen's back with their claws, causing feather loss, bare spots, and painful wounds. The Hen Saver shields this vulnerable area.
The single strap goes on like a back pack - pull the left side of the strap over over the left wing, then the right side of the strap over the right wing and then center the saddle on the chicken's back. The double strap has a loop for the hen's head - place your hen's head through the loop, then pull the left strap over the left wing and the right strap over the right wing. cneter on back.
Yes! The Hen Saver has protected hens from rooster damage for over 15 years. It prevents feather loss and skin injuries while allowing your hen to move naturally, dust bathe, and roost normally. Trusted by backyard flock owners and veterinarians.
The Hen Saver chicken saddle is the #1 solution for protecting hens from rooster over-mating. It shields the back and prevents injuries while allowing natural flock behavior. For severe aggression, consider the Hen Saver with Shoulder Protectors for extended coverage.
Yes! The Hen Saver allows all natural chicken behaviors including dust bathing, roosting, foraging, and nesting. The lightweight design doesn't restrict movement or prevent your hen from engaging in normal flock activities.
Hens can wear the Hen Saver continuously while feathers regrow or while living with aggressive roosters. Remove weekly to check skin condition and allow complete dust bathing. Most hens wear saddles for 2-6 months until feathers fully regrow.
The Hen Saver fits most standard chicken breeds with adjustable elastic straps. Measure your hen from shoulder to tail base and refer to our sizing guide. Bantam chickens and very large breeds may need custom sizing.
Absolutely! The Hen Saver doesn't interfere with egg laying, nesting behavior, or vent access. Your hen can continue laying normally while protected from rooster damage.
The saddle protects your hen from injury but doesn't change rooster behavior. For aggressive roosters, you may need to reduce rooster-to-hen ratio, separate the aggressive male, or provide multiple Hen Savers for vulnerable hens in your flock.
Choose the mesh Hen Saver for hot weather climates, summer protection, or humid regions. The breathable mesh prevents overheating while providing the same rooster protection as our regular saddle. Perfect for Southern states and warm climates.
Yes! The Hen Saver Mesh uses durable breathable mesh that withstands rooster claws while keeping your hen cool. It's as protective as the regular version but with superior airflow for hot weather. Note: the mesh might get small holes from your rooster's nails with prolonged use, but that will not affect the functionality of the saddle.
Absolutely! The mesh Hen Saver is designed for year-round use in hot climates like Texas, Florida, Arizona, and other warm regions. Your hen stays protected and comfortable even during the hottest summer days.
Yes! The quick-dry mesh material is ideal for free-range flocks and humid climates. It dries faster than regular fabric, making it perfect for outdoor chickens in rainy or humid regions.
Yes! The mesh Hen Saver is perfect for free-range summer flocks. It provides rooster protection without causing overheating during active foraging in hot weather.
Choose the mesh with shoulder protectors if you have aggressive roosters in hot climates. This combines maximum protection coverage with breathable mesh to prevent both rooster injuries and heat stress in warm weather.
Absolutely! The Hen Saver Mesh with Shoulder Protectors is specifically designed for hot climates like Texas, Florida, and Southern states. Your hen gets maximum protection without overheating even during 100°F+ days.
Yes! The breathable mesh allows all-summer wear without heat stress. Perfect for flocks needing continuous protection during hot weather months while maintaining hen comfort and health.
Yes! The mesh with shoulder protectors is perfect for your situation - combining maximum coverage for aggressive roosters with breathable mesh for Arizona's extreme heat.
Choose the Hen Saver with Shoulder Protectors when your hen has injuries extending to her shoulders or when roosters are extremely aggressive. The extended coverage prevents wounds from roosters that grip the shoulders during mating.
No! The Hen Saver with Shoulder Protectors is designed to provide maximum coverage while allowing natural movement, dust bathing, and roosting. The lightweight construction doesn't impede your hen's normal behavior.
For severe feather loss extending from back to shoulders, choose the Hen Saver with Shoulder Protectors. It provides maximum coverage to protect healing skin and allow feathers to regrow without further damage.
Yes! The Hen Saver with Shoulder Protectors is ideal for flocks with multiple roosters or high rooster-to-hen ratios. The extended protection prevents injuries in more aggressive mating situations common with multiple males.
The shoulder protector version provides immediate protection for vulnerable hens or those recovering from injury. It's especially valuable when introducing hens to established flocks with aggressive roosters or managing rooster behavior problems.

How to put the XS Hen Holster Diaper on your pigeon:
The Hen Holster diaper being worn by a pigeon:
The Runner duck diaper has the staps sewn together with a tab and is designed for very narrow, upright-walking ducks and will not fit a Pekin duck or a chicken.
The Pekin Duck diaper has an adjustable tab so that the straps can be adjusted to fit wider-chested birds. The peking diaper does fit wider chickens.

9) Free any wing feathers that may be caught under the harness
10) To use as a harness, attach a leash to the D-ring
11) Periodically empty and rinse the liner
Both are harness-style diapers with removable liners and are available in three sizes to fit most chickens, ducks and geese.
The Wrap-Around Hen Holster diaper wraps around your bird's tail and offers the ultimate in adjustablity over your bird's vent. This style covers the oil gland and is suitable for ducks, geese and active chickens. The wrap around diaper is much more adjustable than the bikini diaper and is more forgiving of sizing issues.
The Bikini Hen Holster diaper is a lighter 'bikini bottom' diaper that sits below your bird's tail. This style has two adjustable straps and does not cover the bird's oil gland. The Bikini style is better for chickens who preen often and is not suitable for ducks or geese. The Bikini style is less ofrgiving of sizing issues and may slip if too large.
The Runner duck diaper has the staps sewn together with a tab and is designed for very narrow, upright-walking ducks.
The Pekin Duck diaper has an adjustable tab so that the straps can be adjusted to fit wider-chested birds.

Single Strap Hen Savers: secures to your chicken like a backpack.
- One strap that forms two loops: one for each wing
- Hens love them!
- Owners do not love that some hens can remove them
Double Strap Hen Savers: crosses the chicken’s chest
- Two straps that cross to make three loops: one for each wing and one for the head
- Hens hate them at first!
- Owners love that hens can't remove them
Because the double-strap style crosses the chicken’s chest, it take most chickens time to get used to. Some customers refer to this time as “waiting for the backwards circus to end.”

The single-strap Hen Saver® secures to your chicken like a backpack: pull the left loop of the strap over your chicken’s left wing and the right loop over the right wing. Check that the straps are not caught in any feathers and be sure to center the apron on the strap so that it sits squarely on your chicken.

The double-strap Hen Saver® is secured by placing your chicken’s head through the loops made by the intersection of the two straps and then pulling the left strap over the left wing, and the right strap over the right wing. Be sure to keep a finger between the straps and the chicken’s throat while you pull the straps over the wings so as not to inadvertently choke the chicken. Check that the straps are not caught in any feathers.
Put the apron on first, and then pull the strap on the shoulder protector over your chicken’s head.

Yes! Here is a sampling:
"I wanted to write and tell you that I purchased three of your Hen Saver saddles about a month ago. My hens' backs and shoulders were pretty bare from the rooster. After wearing the Hen Saver for only a month, all three hens are growing their feathers back. It took about two days for them to get used to the saddle, but now they are completely comfortable with it. I'm very happy with your product and with the fact that it has saved my hens' backs & shoulders. All in all, a great product. Thanks again."
"Just wanted you to know, I received my order of hen savers today. Thanks for the speedy response. "THE GIRLS" got their aprons put on and after the backwards circus was over, I can see where these will be just the ticket for them. One thing I noticed right away was how they fit so well that they cover the exact areas that had been worn and raw. Perfect also because winter has really set in here in Montana."
My chicken is walking backwards (or lying down, or doing back flips, or rolling over…). What should I do?
The double-strap style crosses the chicken’s chest, which takes most chickens time to get used to. Some customers refer to this time as “waiting for the backwards circus to end.” First, be sure the straps of the apron are not too tight. If they are, you need a larger size. If the straps fit well, but your chicken is uncomfortable with the straps crossing her chest, or her antics cause other chickens to peck her, she needs a single-strap model.
The Hen Saver® is falling to the side. What should I do?
Make sure the apron is centered on the straps and on the chicken. You may have to adjust it periodically. The single-strap model is more accommodating of size issues and almost never slides around. The double strap, if it is too large, will flop to the side. If the apron is flopping to the side you need a single-strap model or a smaller size double-strap model.
The Hen Saver® is lifting up. What should I do?
This is normal. The Hen Saver® is intended to lift up when your chicken flaps her wings. This is so that air can circulate under the apron and to enable your chicken to successfully take a dirt bath. If the apron stands up and stays up, the apron is either too small for your hen or too wide between her shoulders. You need a different size.

Here is a video answering the most frequently asked questions about the made-in-the-USA Kitty Holster.
Here is a written list of FAQs:
How does the Kitty Holster stay on?
The harness secures with strong, wide Velcro closures at the neck and around the abdomen.
Is the harness washable?
Yes. For best results, close both collar and girth so that the Velcro overlaps entirely and wash in cold water on the delicate cycle. Dry closed in dryer on delicate setting or open Velcro and lay flat to dry.
My cat HATES harnesses. How can I best get the Kitty Holster on him?
We recommend that you drape it over him while he is lying down. Reach slowly and gently around his abdomen and neck to secure the Velcro closures.
Can my cat get out of the Kitty Holster?
It is VERY difficult for a cat to remove a well-fitting Kitty Holster. However, some cats can get out of ANY harness, particularly if it is loose fitting around the collar (you should not be able to get a finger easily between collar and cat). In our experience, these accomplished Houdinis tend to pull backwards against a taut leash -- particularly in a tie-out situation, which we do not recommend -- while twisting rapidly with front legs straightened up toward their head, thereby being able to slip the harness over their head and front legs. For any cat that has a tendency to pull backwards against a leash it is essential that the harness fit snuggly and that you keep the leash behind the cat.
How do I remove cat hair from the Velcro?
To clean the Velcro between washings, use one of the types of sticky-rollers that are sold to remove pet hair from clothing. A swipe of the roller and even the hair that is stuck in the closed loops of the Velcro will simply vanish.

While no cat harness is 100% escape-proof, the Kitty Holster's vest design makes it significantly harder for cats to slip out compared to traditional harnesses. The wraparound style distributes pressure evenly and provides multiple points of contact, making escape attempts much more difficult.

Yes! Here is a handful. You can certainly find customer-made videos on instagram.
The Kitty Holster will fit tripod cats very well if they have a front left or right stump. If your cat's front leg has been amputated in full and there is no protruding stump, then you would need to order a custom, hand-made-to-order Tripod Kitty Holster. Note that the Tripod harness covers a portion of the flat area where the leg is missing, so it will not fit a Tripod cat that has a stump.
- Keep a bag of your cat’s favorite treats with you.
- Hold the leash behind your cat. It is nearly impossible for a cat to back out of a Kitty Holster if the leash is behind the cat. Walk your cat in an enclosed yard or other safe area NOT near traffic or crowded areas.
- Take the time to train your cat to not attempt to back out of the harness: if your cat backs up, INSTANTLY slacken the leash and DO NOT give your cat something to pull against. After several repetitions your cat will stop attempting to pull out of the harness backwards. It is essential that you INSTANTLY and ALWAYS slacken the leash. This is easiest if you are standing behind the cat.
- Use and reinforce vocal cues such as “go,” “no,” “stop,” “inside” and “wait.”
- Use gentle reassurance by talking to your cat in a friendly tone. If your cat becomes alarmed, stroke your cat’s back at the base of the tail.
- If your cat starts to twist and roll to escape from the harness, do not try to pull the cat to you. Instead, slacken the leash, reach down and pet your cat to calm the cat down. If your cat was frightened by something or someone, calmly pick your cat up, walk away from the area, and consider calling it a day.
- If your cat escapes from the Kitty Holster, stay calm. Sit on the ground, offer your cat a treat, and urge your cat to come to you using a friendly voice. When your cat comes to you, reach out slowly, pet your cat, and then calmly pick your cat up. If your cat starts to wander off, don’t take chase! Hearing you running behind will just make your cat run faster; instead, walk calmly and slowly, saying your cat’s name in a friendly voice. Stop when your cat stops, sit on the ground and offer your cat a treat to entice your cat to come to you.
Unlike traditional H-style cat harnesses, the Kitty Holster features a secure vest-style design that wraps around your cat's chest and shoulders. This makes it the closest thing to an escape proof cat harness on the market, as cats cannot easily back out or twist free like they can with H-style harnesses.
