CIRCLE OF FRIENDS RESCUE CLUB
Did You Know?
About the Crazy K Farm Rescue Effort
We take in unwanted, abused and neglected livestock, including chickens, guinea fowl, ducks, geese, goats, sheep, as well as a limited number of cats, dogs and parrots.
Once placed with us, these animals live the remainder of their lives on our 35 park-like acres in Hempstead, Texas, approximately 45 miles northwest of Houston.
Crazy K Farm is committed to providing each and every animal on our farm with the best life possible, which means that every animal on this farm receives costly medical care when needed.
What is the Circle of Friends Rescue Club?
One way to help us with our rescue effort is to purchase from our store. Another way is to become a member of our Circle of Friends Rescue Club by donating as little as $1 to Crazy K Farm. Without this kind of help, it would not be possible for us to care for the many rescued animals on our farm and continue rescuing animals in need.
By joining our Circle of Friends Rescue Club, you help us meet the high cost medical needs of our many rescues.
current Crazy K Farm rescue medical needs
- The following are a couple of the animals at Crazy K Farm that are currently in need of/currently receiving medical care:
Booty Girl
Bootles (as we have nicknamed her) has leukemia. She has been on chemotherapy for two months and has stabilized to a near-miraculous level -- her current blood work looks NORMAL! Her medications are not inexpensive and she will be on them for the rest of her life. She is a wonderful hen and with continued support should live a healthy, happy and hopefully long, life.
Una
Una came to us with one leg: she survived an attack by a snake that had bitten off her leg. She recently laid her first egg. I was concerned about how she would do that since she is not very stable, and prefers lying on her side to standing on her one leg. But there was the egg, and she looked fine... She will, of course, live inside for the rest of her life and your support will keep her healthy and happy.
Past Crazy K Farm rescue medical needs
- Meet some of the recipients of your donations:
Wheezy
Wheezy was a Rhode Island Red hen that is having difficulty breathing. She has been diagnosed with both aspergillosis, a serious fungal disease that invades the lungs, and a secondary MRSA (resistant staph infection.) Her antifungal medications cost $125 per week. With your help she recovered 100% and recently passed away of natural causes.
Buffy
Buffy was a Buff Orpington that was rescued along with her sister, Gimpy, about three years ago. She suffered from egg yoke peritonitis and was called a miracle by the veterinarians who did not expect her to survive as long as she did. Although she passed away during surgery, our Angels covered the bills for her very expensive medicines for several months prior to surgery. Thank you, Angels! And RIP Buff, every single day we miss you...
Lucky
Lucky is a female African goose who was attacked by a Bobcat. The cat bit her in the neck, breaking her vertebrae and causing a life-threatening infection. For several weeks she was paralyzed, but thanks to your donations, she received the medical care she needed to survive. The infection was beaten, her vertebrae fused, and she regained her ability to walk. In this photo you can see the scars left by the cat's canine teeth and the crook in Lucky's neck.
Lucy
Lucy is a female Ameraucana chicken who suffered from egg peritonitis. She had her oviduct removed. Above is a photo of her post-surgery.
Spenser
Spenser is one of our rescued Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGD) who protects our rescued chickens, geese and ducks. He tore both rear ACLs and was unable to walk. Above is a photo of him at the hospital waiting for the first of his two surgeries.
